The genus Dactylorhiza Necker ex Nevski sect. Dactylorhiza in Sicily has been revised as regards taxonomy, distribution, ecology and caryology. Field examination of sicilian populations and studies of literature and herbariums have lead to the conclusion that in Sicily occurs only one taxon: Dactylorhiza saccifera (Brongn.) Soo.
