  • Abstract The courtship and mating behaviour of the Chinese praying mantis was studied by analysing videotapes of adults in an enclosed, illuminated arena. Three courtship patterns were observed: (1) the male approached while in view of the female; (2) the male approached the female from behind; and (3) the female approached the male.
