In this paper we consider the problem of planning sensor observations for a network of overhead sensors which will resolve ambiguities in the output of a horizontal sensor network. More specifically, we address the problem of counting the number of objects detected by the horizontal sensor network, using the overhead network to aim at specific areas to improve the count. We consider several different overhead sensor models. The main theme of our results is that, even though observation planning…

This paper focuses on the design of a light-weight, energy-efficient, and robust solution where not only each camera node transmits a very limited amount of data but that a limited number of camera nodes is used.

This dissertation presents the design of a fault-tolerant localization algorithm that would not only accurately localize targets but also detect the faults in camera orientations, tolerate these errors and further correct them before they cascade.

In this work, groups of image sensors segment foreground objects from the background, aggregate the resulting silhouettes over a network, and compute a planar projection of the scene's visual hull, which introduces a geometric algorithm that calculates bounds on the number of persons in each region of the projection, after phantom regions have been eliminated.

It is shown that a “greedy” heuristic always produces a solution whose value is at least 1 −[(K − 1/K]K times the optimal value, which can be achieved for eachK and has a limiting value of (e − 1)/e, where e is the base of the natural logarithm.
