Countertransference distortions particular to psychotherapeutic work between religious therapists and patients are discussed. It is suggested that such distortions are based in both participants’ neurotic uses of religious affiliation, partially reinforced by the social acceptability of familial attitudes among members of a religious community. Specific management procedures are outlined.
