The development in vitro of a strigeoid trematode,Cotylurus erraticus from the sexually undifferentiated metacercaria to ovigerous adult has been examined at 24-h intervals, using section autoradiography. Nuclear accumulation of trace-labelled3H-thymidine showed that DNA synthesis was triggered in the genital anlagen within 4 h of excystment and that spermatogonia and oogonia were evident within 3 days of culture.
