Cosmic strings and superstrings

Cosmic strings are predicted by many field-theory models, and may have been formed at a symmetry-breaking transition early in the history of the universe, such as that associated with grand unification. They could have important cosmological effects. Scenarios suggested by fundamental string theory or M-theory, in particular the popular idea of brane inflation, also strongly suggest the appearance of similar structures. Here we review the reasons for postulating the existence of cosmic strings…

From theoretical point of view and not being in contradiction with current observational data, the cosmic strings should have fundamentally different origin and are characterized by wide range of…
Exploring cosmic strings: Observable effects and cosmological constraints
- Physics
- 2011
Observation of cosmic (super)strings can serve as a useful hint to understand the fundamental theories of physics, such as grand unified theories (GUTs) and/or superstring theory. In this regard, I…
String vertex operators and cosmic strings

We construct complete sets of (open and closed string) covariant coherent state and mass eigenstate vertex operators in bosonic string theory. This construction can be used to study the evolution of…
Cosmic super-strings and Kaluza-Klein modes

Cosmic super-strings interact generically with a tower of relatively light and/or strongly coupled Kaluza-Klein (KK) modes associated with the geometry of the internal space. In this paper, we study…

Cosmic strings in string perturbation theory

Fundamental cosmic superstrings are defined in string perturbation theory in terms of vertex operators, which are loosely identified with arbitrarily excited macroscopic string states. We construct…
Search for cosmic strings

We present a review of the current status of cosmic strings in theoretical and observational cosmology. Two independent methods to cosmic strings’ search in the Universe are considered: (a) a search…
Extremely high energy neutrinos from cosmic strings

Superstring theory and other supersymmetric theories predict the existence of relatively light, weakly interacting scalar particles, called moduli, with a universal form of coupling to matter. Such…
Cosmic strings and their induced non-Gaussianities in the cosmic microwave background

Motivated by the fact that cosmological perturbations of inflationary quantum origin were born Gaussian, the search for non-Gaussianities in the cosmic microwave background (CMB) anisotropies is…

Cosmic strings are linear concentrations of energy that may be formed at phase transitions in the very early universe. At one time they were thought to provide a possible origin for the density…

The properties of cosmic superstring networks are studied and their phenomenological consequences against observational data are compared to pin down the successful and natural inflationary model and get an insight into the stringy description of the authors' Universe.

A superstring-inspired version of D-term inflation that does not lead to cosmic string formation and appears to satisfy the current cosmic microwave background constraints and is expected to survive supergravity corrections.
