Because tyrosinase catalyzes melanin synthesis, tyrosinase inhibitors are important in cosmetic skin-whitening. Oxidative stress contributes to skin aging and can adversely affect skin health, which means antioxidants active in skin cells may support skin health. We examined 25 traditional Chinese herbal medicines that might be useful for skin-whitening and skin health. Extracts (100microg/mL) were tested for cytotoxicity on human epidermal melanocytes (HEMn); 12 exhibited low cytotoxicity… Expand
Effect of extracts of traditional Chinese medicines on anti-tyrosinase and antioxidant activities
TLDR
The anti-tyrosinase and antioxidant activities of these two TCM extracts may be due to direct linkage to the contents of their active compounds. Expand
Inhibitory effect and mechanism on melanogenesis from fermented herbal composition for medical or food uses
TLDR
Results suggest that P. linteus complex culture broth inhibits melanogenesis through the activation of the phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase/Akt/glycogen synthase kinase-3beta signaling pathway and down-regulation of microphthalmia-associated transcription factor, and also suggests that it may be an effective inhibitor of hyperpigmentation. Natural products of cosmetics: Analysis of extracts of plants endemic to Taiwan for the presence of tyrosinase-inhibitory, melanin-reducing, and free radical scavenging activities
Non-toxic natural products useful in the formulation of cosmetics are of considerable interest. Recent efforts have focused on the identification of substances that inhibit tyrosinase activity orExpand
Screening of Chinese herbal medicines for antityrosinase activity in a cell free system and B16 cells.
TLDR
Three Chinese medicinal herbs and three TCM formulas are identified that have appreciable antityrosinase activity and are warranted to develop them as skin-whitening agents with convenient dosage forms or to identify active constituents from the extracts as useful leads for the development of skin whiteners. Characterization of Melanogenesis Inhibitory Constituents of Morus alba Leaves and Optimization of Extraction Conditions Using Response Surface Methodology
TLDR
Twenty compounds including eight benzofurans, 10 flavonoids, one stilbenoid and one chalcone were isolated from M. alba leaves and these phenolic constituents were shown to significantly inhibit tyrosinase activity and melanin content in B6F10 melanoma cells. Expand
Promotion and computation of inhibitory effect on tyrosinase activity of herbal cream by incorporating indigenous medicinal plants.
TLDR
This finding suggests that decrease in antityrosinase activity of HC1 and HC3 might be considering that the incompatibility of the higher extract content with the base of cream, due to higher level of polyphenol and flavonoids present in extracts. Expand
Effects of selected moraceae plants on tyrosinase enzyme and melanin content
