Resistance to the antiinflammatory effects of corticosteroids is very uncommon in asthma but common in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Recent understanding of the molecular mechanisms involved in the antiinflammatory actions of corticosteroids has revealed that there are several possible mechanisms for corticosteroid resistance.
