Emotionally loaded and stressful events modulate cognitive performance. This modulation of cognitive performance is at least partially dependent on corticosteroid hormones that are released in high amounts during emotional or stressful events. Corticosterone both strengthens and suppresses cognitive performance and synaptic plasticity.
