Monkeys, apes and men share the ability to move their digits in a precise and relatively independent manner. This ability is lost following damage to the motor cortex 9.~.-'°. In monkeys, bilateral destruction of the pyramidal tract also resuits in a permanent deficit of relatively independent finger movements ~3.~4.
