Postmortem volumetry of cortex, white matter, and basal ganglia was performed in 23 brains of schizophrenic patients and 23 brains of controls closely matched for gender, age, and hemisphere. Stereological methods were applied to serial coronal sections of complete hemispheres. We found no significant volume changes of cortex and white matter in schizophrenics.
