We report a scaling of the mean matter density with the width of the saturated Lya absorptions. This property is established using the 'pseudo-hydro' technique (Croft et al.). It provides a constraint for the inversion ofthe Lya forest, which encounters difficulty in the saturated region. With a Gaussian density profile and the scaling relation, a simple inversion of the simulated Lya forests shows that the one-dimensional mass power spectrum is well recovered on scales above 2 h - 1 Mpc, or…

Lyman Alpha Flux Power Spectrum and Its Covariance
• Physics
• 2005
We analyze the flux power spectrum and its covariance using simulated Lyman alpha forests. We find that pseudo-hydro techniques are good approximations of hydrodynamical simulations at high redshift.
Covariance of the one-dimensional mass power spectrum
• Physics
• 2003
We analyse the covariance of the one-dimensional mass power spectrum along lines of sight. The covariance reveals the correlation between different modes of fluctuations in the cosmic density field

Recovery of the Power Spectrum of Mass Fluctuations from Observations of the Lyα Forest
• Physics
• 1998
We present a method to recover the shape and amplitude of the power spectrum of mass fluctuations, P(k), from observations of the high-redshift Lyα forest. The method is motivated by the physical
Recovery of the Shape of the Mass Power Spectrum from the Lyα Forest
We propose a method for recovering the shape of the mass power spectrum on large scales from the transmission fluctuations of the Lyα forest that directly takes into account redshift-space
Probing the Universe with the Lyα forest — I. Hydrodynamics of the low-density intergalactic medium
• Physics
• 1997
We introduce an efficient and accurate alternative to full hydrodynamic simulations, Hydro-PM (HPM), for the study of the low column density Lyman-alpha forest (NHI <∼ 10 14 cm−2). It consists of a
Resolving the lyman-alpha forest
• Physics
• 1998
In this paper we critically examine predictions of the Lyα forest within the standard cold dark matter (SCDM) model, paying particular attention to the low end of the column-density distribution. We
Evolution of Structure in the Intergalactic Medium and the Nature of the Lyα Forest
• Physics

We have performed a detailed statistical study of the evolution of structure in a photoionized intergalactic medium (IGM) using analytical simulations to extend the calculation into the mildly
The Power Spectrum of Mass Fluctuations Measured from the Lyα Forest at Redshift z = 2.5
• Physics
• 1998
We measure the linear power spectrum of mass-density fluctuations at redshift z = 2.5 from the Lyα forest absorption in a sample of 19 QSO spectra, using the method introduced by Croft et al. The
A Simulation of Ly-alpha Absorption Forests in Linear Approximation in Cold and Cold+Hot Dark Matter Models
• Physics
• 1995
Our goal in this paper is to test some popular dark matter models by Ly-alpha forest in QSO spectra. Recent observations of the size and velocity of Ly-alpha forest clouds have indicated that the
The Opacity of the Lyα Forest and Implications for Ωb and the Ionizing Background
We have measured the distribution function of the flux decrement D = 1 - e-τ caused by Lyα forest absorption from intervening gas in the lines of sight to high-redshift QSOs from a sample of seven

We investigate and simulate Lyα absorption by the primordial hydrogen (the IGM) in the cold dark matter cosmology taking into account the Doppler effect of peculiar velocity. The IGM density is found
