BACKGROUND We report an unusual type of corneal change in some communities mesoendemic for onchocerciasis in Kaduna State of Northern Nigeria. METHODS Thirty-four villages with an overall average microfilarial skin snip positivity rate of 71% and a total population of about 10,000 were included in a controlled trial of ivermectin for onchocerciasis.
