In the cat genome, endogenous feline leukemia virus (enFeLV) exists as multiple, nearly full-length proviral sequences. Even though no infectious virus is produced from enFeLV sequences, transcription and translation have been demonstrated in tissues of healthy cats and in feline cell lines.
