A new cleavage reaction of benzylethers catalyzed by copper (II) trifluoromethanesulfonate in the presence of diacetoxyiodobenzene and p-toluene sulfonamide is described. This novel method allowed the selective cleavage of various benzyl ethers into benzylideneaniline and alcohols or phenols under mild conditions.
