The glass transition is a long-standing unsolved problem in materials science. For polymers, our understanding of glass-formation is particularly poor due to the added complexity of chain connectivity and flexibility; structural relaxation of polymers thus involves a complex interplay between intraand inter-molecular cooperativity. Here we study how the glass transition temperature Tg varies with molecular weight M for different polymer chemistries and chain flexibilities. We find that Tg(M) is…

Comment on the dynamic bead size and Kuhn segment length in polymers: Example of polystyrene
Discrepancies between the length of a traditionally defined Kuhn segment length (lk) and a bead size estimated from experimental data have been reported in a number of articles. In this work we

Dynamical Theory of Segmental Relaxation and Emergent Elasticity in Supercooled Polymer Melts
We generalize the force-level Elastically Collective Nonlinear Langevin Equation theory of supercooled molecular liquid dynamics to polymer melts based on mapping chains to disconnected and
Kinetic interpretation of the glass transition: Glass temperatures of n‐alkane liquids and polyethylene
On the basis of an isoviscosity criterion for the glass transition (ηg ⋍ 1013 poise) in liquids of low molecular weight, theoretical Tg values were calculated for the n-alkane series by the equation

Calorimetric glass transition explained by hierarchical dynamic facilitation
The glass transition refers to the nonequilibrium process by which an equilibrium liquid is transformed to a nonequilibrium disordered solid, or vice versa. Associated response functions, such as
Conformational and Structural Relaxations of Poly(ethylene oxide) and Poly(propylene oxide) Melts : Molecular Dynamics Study of Spatial Heterogeneity, Cooperativity, and Correlated Forward-Backward Motion
Performing molecular dynamics simulations for all-atom models, we characterize the conformational and structural relaxations of poly(ethylene oxide) and poly(propylene oxide) melts. The temperature

Nature of the Glass Transition and the Glassy State
The thermodynamic properties of amorphous phases of linear molecular chains are obtained from statistical mechanics by means of a form of the quasi‐lattice theory which allows for chain stiffness and
