Ergotismo del sistema nervioso central. Reporte de dos muertes maternas asociadas a vasoespasmo cerebral por medicamentos derivados del ergot en Antioquia, Colombia, y revisión de la literatura
TLDR
Ergotism of the central nervous system due to the use of drugs such as bromocriptine and methylergonovine must be recognised during the postpartum period because it is life-threatening.
Ergot alkaloids: extent of human and animal exposure
TLDR
The present review focuses more on how man and animals are exposed to ergot alkaloids than on toxicology and methods of analysis.
Serotonergic and tryptaminergic overstimulation on refeeding implicated in "enlightenment" experiences.
University of Birmingham Serotonin syndrome
TLDR
Whether the inhibition of tryptophan hydroxylase (TPH) may provide an opportunity to pharmacologically target central 5-HT synthesis, and so develop new treatments for severe, life-threatening SS is discussed.
2. Ecstasy and the serotonin syndrome
TLDR
This chapter addresses this complication through an exploration of the theoretical mechanisms and clinical manifestations of this life-threatening pharmacological interaction between SSRIs and MDMA.
Sudor Anglicus: an epidemic targeting the autonomic nervous system
TLDR
Of candidate etiologic agents, a virus is most likely, given the seasonal variation, geographic clustering, and pattern of spread of the epidemics, but a definitive match with known viruses has remained elusive.

Serotonin Syndrome Complicating Migraine Pharmacotherapy
TLDR
Six patients with migraine who developed symptoms suggestive of the serotonin syndrome were reported, five were taking one or more serotomimetic agents for migraine prophylaxis (sertraline, paroxetine, lithium, imipramine, amitriptyline), and in each case the symptoms and signs developed in close temporal proximity with use of a migraine abortive agent known to interact with serotonin receptors.
Historical view on ergot alkaloids.
TLDR
Once a dreaded poison, ergot has changed its role over the centuries to become a rich treasure house of valuable pharmaceuticals, which has resulted in the elucidation of their structures and total syntheses and preparation of valuable therapeutics.
Cerebral ergotism under treatment with ergotamine and ritonavir
TLDR
A 37-year-old woman with AIDS was admitted to the authors' stroke unit with an 18-hour history of acute-onset speech disorder and weakness of the right-sided extremities, and her treating physician prescribed ergotamine suppositories, which never were described before.
Localization of 3H‐Dihydroergotamine‐binding sites in the cat central nervous system: Relevance to migraine
TLDR
Using in vitro and ex vivo autoradiographic techniques, the localization of specific binding sites for 3H‐dihydroergotamine in the cat brain has been examined, finding the highest density of binding sites was found in the dorsal and medial raphe nuclei of the midbrain.
THE SUBSTANCE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE TRADITIONAL CLINICAL EFFECT OF ERGOT
TLDR
It is interesting to note that a marked change to virilism does not occur in women as the direct result of these lesions after the menopause, although, as the authors know, in many after that epoch certain masculine characteristics, such as hair on the face, are common.
Clinically Significant Drug Interactions with Agents Specific For Migraine Attacks
TLDR
Nearly all the clinically important interactions between the ergopeptide antimigraine agents and currently marketed drugs are likely to have already come to notice.
Ergot Poisoning at Pont St. Esprit
TLDR
Patterson found that in his cases a large number of leptospires continued to be excreted in the urine for many weeks after clinical recovery.
Serotonin and Appetite Regulation
TLDR
Evidence suggests that serotonergic drugs can continue to play a useful role in the treatment of obesity and whether serotonin-based interventions are appropriate for the binge eating subpopulation of obese people and for those individuals displaying binge eating disorder.
