Introduction [TTI: Lev Samuilovich Klejn, known in the West as Leo Klejn, is one of the foremost archaeologists in Russia (formerly in the Soviet Union). He was born in Vitebsk, Byelorussia, in I927. From I962, he was a lecturer in Leningrad University, where he inspired several generations of students until his arrest and imprisonment in I98I.
