Pyrimidine derivatives are an important class of heterocycles and significant bioactive moieties with wide rangeof biological activities such as, antibacterial, antiinflammatory, antihypertensive, antitumor and calcium channel blocking activity. The coupling of certain pyrimidine derivatives (e.g. barbituric acid) with azo compounds and their further metallation with transition metals give rise to bioactive moieties along with diverse industrial applications.
