We tune the emission wavelength of an InAsP quantum dot in an InP nanowire over 200 meV by depositing a SiO(2) envelope using plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition without deterioration of the optical quality. This SiO(2) envelope generates a controlled static strain field. Both red and blue shift can be easily achieved by controlling the deposition conditions of the SiO(2). Using atomistic empirical tight-binding calculations, we investigate the effect of strain on a quantum dot band…

Strain Engineered Band Structure and Optical Properties of Confined GaAs Quantum Dots
Understanding the physics that correlate strain and physical properties of quantum dots (QDs) is crucial for technology applications. In this paper, GaAs QDs confined in Al2O3 matrix are synthesized
Morphological and temperature-dependent optical properties of InAs quantum dots on GaAs nanowires with different InAs coverage
We report a study on the morphological and temperature-dependent optical properties of InAs quantum dots on GaAs nanowires with different InAs coverage. We find that the size, density, and

This thesis is dedicated to the engineering of the emission energy of quantum dots embedded in core-shell GaAs-AlGaAs nanowires. The goal is to redshift the quantum-dot emission energy in resonance
Scalable in operando strain tuning in nanophotonic waveguides enabling three-quantum-dot superradiance
TLDR
Local tuning of quantum dots embedded in a photonic waveguide can be achieved through the strain produced by laser heating of a thin layer of HfO2 deposited around the waveguide and the method is exploited to tune three quantum dots in resonance.
Local strain engineering in atomically thin MoS2.
TLDR
A nonuniform tight-binding model is developed to calculate the electronic properties of MoS2 nanolayers with complex and realistic local strain geometries, finding good agreement with the experimental results.
Nanospectroscopy of single quantum dots with local strain control using a phase-change mask
Herein, we describe a new technique that allows high-sensitivity near-field imaging spectroscopic analysis of individual quantum constituents in semiconductors. This method employs an optical mask
Strain-induced energy gap variation in ZnTe/ZnMgTe core/shell nanowires
Strain-induced changes of ZnTe energy gap in ZnTe/ZnMgTe core/shell nanowires arising from lattice mismatch between the core and the shell semiconductor are studied by means of optical methods. It is
Spectra of dark and bright excitons in alloyed nanowire quantum dots
Excitons in alloyed nanowire quantum dots have unique spectra as shown here using atomistic calculations. The bright exciton splitting is triggered solely by alloying and despite cylindrical quantum

Surface effects in a semiconductor photonic nanowire and spectral stability of an embedded single quantum dot
We evidence the influence of surface effects for InAs quantum dots embedded into GaAs photonic nanowires used as efficient single photon sources. We observe a continuous temporal drift of the
Direct measure of strain and electronic structure in GaAs/GaP core-shell nanowires.
TLDR
Highly strained GaAs/GaP nanowires of excellent optical quality were grown with 50 nm diameter GaAs cores and 25 nm GaP shells and it is shown that the Raman response of the GaP shell is consistent with tensile strain.
Tuning the exciton binding energies in single self-assembled InGaAs/GaAs quantum dots by piezoelectric-induced biaxial stress.
TLDR
This work studies the effect of an external biaxial stress on the light emission of single InGaAs/GaAs(001) quantum dots placed onto piezoelectric actuators to provide a robust method to achieve color coincidence in the emission of X and XX, which is a prerequisite for the possible generation of entangled photon pairs via the recently proposed "time reordering" scheme.
Solid-state single photon sources: the nanowire antenna.
TLDR
Using fully-vectorial calculations and a comprehensive Fabry-Perot model, it is shown that various realistic nanowire geometries may act as nanoantennas that assist funnelling the emitted photons into a single monomode channel.
Subnanosecond spectral diffusion of a single quantum dot in a nanowire
We have studied spectral diffusion of the photoluminescence of a single CdSe quantum dot inserted in a ZnSe nanowire. We have measured the characteristic diffusion time as a function of pumping power
All-optical control of the g-factor in self-assembled (In,Ga)As/GaAs quantum dots
Semiconductor quantum dots have improved solid-state laser technology and introduced a new controllable zero-dimensional system to physicists. Next to laser technology, they can be applied as memory
