The use of flexible endoscopes in new surgical procedures such as NOTES, i.e. Natural Orifice Transluminal Endoscopic Surgery, raises many problems. Indeed, the movements of conventional flexible endoscopes are limited and surgeons can only perform basic tasks with these systems.
