Abstract One new genus (Sycophilomorpha), one new species (Sycoscapteridea guruti) and the female of a known species (Walkerella temeraria Westwood) are described.

The genus Sycophilodes is revised with redescription of the male and the first description of the female of its only currently included species, S. moniliformis, and a key for distinguishing both sexes of the two included species is presented.

A checklist of 115 fig wasp species recorded within the present political boundary of India till 2015 is provided along with a fig–fig wasp host catalogue and two new synonyms are proposed.

A previously unknown fig wasp niche is illustrated and the understanding of factors that can affect the fig–fig wasp interaction is expanded.
