Albanian insect fauna is one of the least studied in Europe. In 2012 and 2013 surveys were undertaken with the aim of improving the knowledge of the distribution of butterflies, particularly in the southern part of the country. This research has resulted in publicating three new species records for Alba - nia. Here we add two new species to the list of native butterflies of Albania Melitaea ornata Christoph, 1893 and Cupidoalcetas(Hoffmannsegg, 1804). We recorded a total of 143 species…

Annotated checklist of Albanian butterflies (Lepidoptera, Papilionoidea and Hesperioidea)

Distribution of the Eastern knapweed fritillary (Melitaea ornata Christoph, 1893) (Lepidoptera: Nymphalidae): past, present and future
TLDR
It is proposed that Europe was probably re-colonised from two main sources, from the Apennine peninsula and from the Balkans which was probably connected to the Anatolian refugia, and a less probable recent extinction from Iberia and a more supported historical explanation are proposed.
Wanted! Dead or alive: the tale of the Brown’s Grayling (Pseudochazara amymone)
TLDR
It is argued that hiding valuable information regarding threatened insect species may have negative effects and it is advocated to publish available distribution data so that conservation measures may be undertaken where and when necessary.
