Thyroid hormones and their receptors (TRs) have critical functions in development. Here we show that a chicken TR beta cDNA clone encodes a receptor with a novel, short N-terminal domain. In vitro-expressed TR beta protein bound thyroid hormone with similar affinity as the chicken TR alpha.
