There is cause to be hopeful of the potentials for collective political and aesthetic resistance to post-modern, consumer capitalism that is nevertheless drawn from and embodied in mass cultural experiences and practices. Such contestation tends to challenge capitalist hegemony outside the official circulation of power, but it can bring significant external pressure to bear upon the state.
