Abstract A simple device for optimal measurements of the concentration of microbial cells in a bioreactor is described. It consists of a green or red light-emitting diode as light source and a photodiode as light detector. The device can be used for continuous measurements on cell suspensions circulated through a measuring chamber comprised of a tube or viral.
