The production of staphylocoagulase was studied with continuous cultures of various S. aureus strains in a simple salts medium supplemented with mannitol, casein hydrolysate and three vitamins. Conditions of low oxygen availability and magnesium-limitation were required for optimal steady-state staphylocoagulase production.
