Metadata for multimedia content can describe the detail of content in order to facilitate processing, for example identifying events along the time axis in temporal media, as well as carrying descriptive information for the overall resource. In both cases the metadata is essentially static and may be associated with, or embedded in, the multimedia content; it may also convey low level signalling data or higher level knowledge such as annotation by users.
