This paper introduces the concept of Web Community Directories, as a means of personalizing services on the Web, and presents a novel methodology for the construction of these directories by usage mining methods. The community models are extracted with the use of the Community Directory Miner, a simple cluster mining algorithm which has been extended to ascend a concept hierarchy, such as a Web directory, and specialize it to the needs of user communities. The construction of the communities is…

Web mining techniques for recommendation and personalization
TLDR
This work aims to address improving the performance of Web information retrieval and Web presentation through developing and employing Web data mining paradigms, and proposed three kinds of latent semantic analytical techniques based on three statistical models, namely traditional Latent Semantic Indexing, Probabilistic LatentSemantic Analysis and Latent Dirichlet Allocation model.
An evaluation study of clustering algorithms in the scope of user communities assessment
TLDR
An integrated social networking framework is introduced through the definition or the appropriate notions and metrics that allows an evaluation study of three widely used clustering methods in the scope of social groups assessment and in regard to the cardinality of the profile used to assess users' preferences.

Web Usage Mining as a Tool for Personalization: A Survey
TLDR
This paper is a survey of recent work in the field of web usage mining for the benefit of research on the personalization of Web-based information services, focusing on the problems identified and the solutions that have been proposed.
On Creating Adaptive Web Servers Using Weblog Mining
TLDR
This work presents a system that mines the logs to get profiles and uses them to automatically generate a web page containing URLs the user might be interested in, and evaluates the efficacy of sessionizing the information with and without the use of cookies.
Discovering user communities on the Internet using unsupervised machine learning techniques
TLDR
Analysis of the results in the three case studies brings to surface some of the important properties of the task, suggesting the feasibility of a common methodology for the three different types of information access on the Internet.
Creating adaptive Web sites through usage-based clustering of URLs
TLDR
An effective technique for capturing common user profiles based on association rule discovery and usage based clustering is proposed and techniques for combining this knowledge with the current status of an ongoing Web activity to perform real time personalization are proposed.
Web usage mining: discovery and applications of usage patterns from Web data
TLDR
A detailed taxonomy of the work in this area, including research efforts as well as commercial offerings is provided, and a brief overview of the WebSIFT system as an example of a prototypical Web usage mining system is given.
From User Access Patterns to Dynamic Hypertext Linking
TLDR
The overall design of a system that implements the preprocessing, clustering, and dynamic link suggestion tasks is described, and some experimental results generated by analyzing the access log of a web site.
Automatic personalization based on Web usage mining
TLDR
The ability to track users’ browsing behavior down to individual mouse clicks has brought the vendor and end customer closer than ever before, and it is now possible for a vendor to personalize his product message for individual customers at a massive scale, a phenomenon that is being referred to as mass customization.
PowerBookmarks: a system for personalizable Web information organization, sharing, and management
TLDR
With these study results, it is believed the Web users would like to build and organize a larger collection of bookmarks for future references than they can reasonably maintain now.
SiteHelper: A Localized Agent That Helps Incremental Exploration of the World Wide Web
TLDR
This paper proposes that each Web server does its own housekeeping, and a software agent named SiteHelper is designed to act as a housekeeper for the Web server and as a helper for a Web user to find relevant information at a particular site.
Web montage: a dynamic personalized start page
TLDR
This work designed and implemented the montage system, an ensemble of links and content fused into a single view that can be presented to the user whenever he or she opens the browser or returns to the start page.
