We report a deep search for redshifted Hi 21cm emission from three damped and sub-damped Lyman-α absorbers (DLAs) at z≈ 0.1 with the Green Bank Telescope (GBT). No evidence for a redshifted Hi 21cm emission signal was obtained in the GBT spectra of two absorbers, with the data on the third rendered unusable by terrestrial i nterference. The non-detections of Hi 21cm emission yield strong constraints on the Hi masses of the associated galaxies, MHI< 2.3× 10 9 × (V/100) 1/2 M⊙ for the sub-DLA at…

H i 21cm emission from the subdamped Lyman-α absorber at z = 0.0063 towards PG 1216+069

We present HI 21cm emission observations of the z ~ 0.00632 sub-damped Lyman-alpha absorber (sub-DLA) towards PG1216+069 made using the Arecibo Telescope and the Very Large Array (VLA). The Arecibo

ALMA + VLT observations of a damped Lyman-α absorbing galaxy: massive, wide CO emission, gas-rich but with very low SFR

We are undertaking an ALMA survey of molecular gas in galaxies selected for their strong HI absorption, so-called DLA/sub-DLA galaxies. Here we report CO(2-1) detection from a DLA galaxy at z =

A deep search for 21-cm absorption in high redshift damped Lyman-alpha systems

We present deep GMRT 21-cm absorption spectra of 10 damped Lyman- systems (DLAs), of which 8 are at redshifts z> 1:3. HI absorption was detected in only one DLA, the z= 0:5318 absorber toward PKS

HI 21 cm imaging of a nearby damped Lyman-alpha system

We present Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (GMRT) HI 21 cm emission images of the z =0 :009 damped Lyman- (DLA) absorber towards the QSO HS 1543+5921. The DLA has been earlier identied as a low

Molecular hydrogen in high-redshift Damped Lyman-alpha systems: The VLT/UVES database

Aims. We present the current status of ongoing searches for molecular hydrogen in high-redshift (1.8 z abs ≤ 4.2) Damped Lyman- α systems (DLAs) capitalising on observations performed with the ESO

The spin temperature of high-redshift damped Lyman α systems

We report results from a programme aimed at investigating the temperature of neutral gas in high-redshift damped Lyman α absorbers (DLAs). This involved (1) H I 21 cm absorption studies of a large

H I 21 cm Observations of the PG 1216+069 Sub-damped Lyα Absorber Field at z = 0.00632

The Westerbork Synthesis Radio Telescope finds a weak 21 cm line emission feature at the coordinates (R.A., decl., velocity) of the sub-damped Lyα (DLA) absorber observed at zabs = 0.00632 in the

H i 21 cm absorption at z ∼ 2.347 towards PKS B0438-436

We report the detection of redshifted H i 21-cm absorption in the z ~ 2.347 damped Lyman absorber (DLA) towards PKS B0438-436 with the Green Bank Telescope. This is the second-highest redshift at

Hi 21cm Observations of the Pg1216+069 Sub-dlyα Absorber Field at Z = 0.00632

The Westerbork Synthesis Radio Telescope finds a weak 21cm line emission feature at the coordinates (RA-Dec-velocity) of the sub-Damped Lyman-α ab-sorber observed at z abs = 0.00632 in the spectrum

A SINFONI integral field spectroscopy survey for galaxy counterparts to damped Lyman α systems – III. Three additional detections

We report three additional Spectrograph for Integral Field Observations in the Near Infrared (SINFONI) detections of Hα emission line from quasar absorbers, two of which are new identifications.

On the Nature of Velocity Fields in High-z Galaxies

We analyze the gas kinematics of damped Lyα systems (DLAs) hosting high-z gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) and those toward quasars (QSO-DLAs), focusing on three statistics: (1) Δv90, the velocity interval

21-cm H I emission from the Damped Lyman-$\vec{\alpha}$ absorber SBS 1543+593

. We detect 21-cm emission from the Low Surface Brightness (LSB) galaxy SBS 1543+593, which gives rise to a Damped-Ly α (DLy α ) absorption line in the spectrum of the background QSO HS 1543+5921 ( z
