Constraining the Chiral Magnetic Effect with charge-dependent azimuthal correlations in Pb-Pb collisions at $$ \sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}} $$ = 2.76 and 5.02 TeV

  title={Constraining the Chiral Magnetic Effect with charge-dependent azimuthal correlations in Pb-Pb collisions at \$\$ \sqrt\{s\_\{\mathrm\{NN\}\}\} \$\$ = 2.76 and 5.02 TeV},

Systematic studies of charge-dependent two- and three-particle correlations in Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{\it{s}_\mathrm{{NN}}} = $ 2.76 and 5.02 TeV used to probe the Chiral Magnetic Effect (CME) are presented. These measurements are performed for charged particles in the pseudorapidity ($\eta$) and transverse momentum ($p_{\rm{T}}$) ranges $\left|\eta \right|<0.8$ and $0.2<p_{\mathrm{T}}<5$ GeV/$c$. A significant charge-dependent signal that becomes more pronounced for peripheral collisions… Expand

Topology, Magnetic Field, and Strongly Interacting Matter
Gauge theories with compact symmetry groups possess topologically nontrivial configurations of gauge field. This characteristic has dramatic implications for the vacuum structure of quantumExpand
Chiral magnetic effect in ZrTe5
The chiral magnetic effect is the generation of electric current induced by chirality imbalance in the presence of magnetic field. It is a macroscopic manifestation of the quantum anomaly inExpand
The Chiral Magnetic Effect and anomaly-induced transport
The Chiral Magnetic Effect (CME) is the phenomenon of electric charge separation along the external magnetic field that is induced by the chirality imbalance. The CME is a macroscopic quantum effectExpand

Elliptic flow in the Gaussian model of eccentricity fluctuations
Abstract We discuss a specific model of elliptic flow fluctuations due to Gaussian fluctuations in the initial spatial x and y eccentricity components { 〈 ( σ y 2 − σ x 2 ) / ( σ x 2 + σ y 2 ) 〉 , 〈Expand
