Nelumbo nucifera Gaertn. (Nymphaceae) has been used for various medicinal purposes as in Chinese herbal medicine. In particular, the leaves are known for diuretic and astringent properties, and are used to treat obesity. During our search for a plant-derived anti-obesity agent from natural products, we have found that a 50% ethanol (EtOH) extract prepared from the leaves of N. nucifera (NN) stimulated lipolysis in the white adipose tissue (WAT) of mice and that the beta-adrenergic receptor…

Purification and Characterization of Aporphine Alkaloids from Leaves of Nelumbo nucifera Gaertn and Their Effects on Glucose Consumption in 3T3-L1 Adipocytes

The results showed that 2-hydroxy-1-methoxyaporphine and pronuciferine increased the glucose consumption significantly as rosiglitazone did and the effects of four separated aporphine alkaloids on insulin-stimulated glucose consumption were examined.

Fat reducing effects of Nelumbo nucifera leaf extract in overweight patients

For both men and women, compared with those in the non-intervention control groups, the whole body fat was significantly decreased after NnEx ingestion, and men also significantly reduced visceral fat and waist circumference after NNEx ingestion compared withThose in the control group.

Anti-Obesity Effects of the Flower of Prunus persica in High-Fat Diet-Induced Obese Mice

The results suggest that PPF exerts anti-obesity effects in obese mice and these beneficial effects might be mediated through improved hepatic lipid metabolism by reducing lipogenesis and increasing fatty acid oxidation.

Hypocholesterolemic Effect of Tartary Buckwheat ( F. tataricum Gaertn .) Extract from High Fat Diet Mice

To investigate the efficacy of extract of Tartary buckwheat ( F. tataricum Gaertn.) in high fat diet (HFD) in mice, the F. tataricum Gaertn . extract (FTE) was orally administered to mice with a HFD

Lotus (Nelumbo nucifera Gaertn.) Leaf-Fermentation Supernatant Inhibits Adipogenesis in 3T3-L1 Preadipocytes and Suppresses Obesity in High-Fat Diet-Induced Obese Rats

It is found that the oral administration of both the low and high doses of FLLS-WEHI01 could achieve some effects, namely decreasing body weight, epididymal fat mass, adipocyte cell size, LDL-C levels, liver TC levels, and improved insulin resistance in rats of the model group, and these results indicate that FLL s can potentially be developed as an healthy, anti-obesity foodstuff.

Antiobesity effect of Stellaria media against drug induced obesity in Swiss albino mice

The findings suggest that antiobesity activity produced by MESM is because of its anorexic property mediated by saponin and flavonoid and partly of by its β-sitosterol content.

Neferine enhances insulin sensitivity in insulin resistant rats.

Effect of Nelumbo nucifera Petal Extracts on Lipase, Adipogenesis, Adipolysis, and Central Receptors of Obesity

Overall, methanol extract of N. nucifera petals showed better activity than successive water extract, and showed evident agonist and antagonist activity towards 5-HT2C and CNR2 receptors, respectively.
