Dominating sets have many applications in distributed computing, and especially in ad-hoc radio networks. One way they are used is in routing: given a graph G representing the communication graph of an ad-hoc network, we can choose the nodes of a dominating set to act as cluster heads. Subsequently, routing is done from cluster head to cluster head, as opposed to from node to node.
