Abstract The response of the dosimetric system containing 0·20 m M ferrous ammonium sulphate, 5·0 m M benzoic acid and 0·20 m M xylenol orange in 0·05 N sulphuric acid (FBX dosimeter) at low doses is not very susceptible to the variation in its composition. The dosimetric solutions could be stored for about 2 weeks before irradiation and upto 3 days after irradiation without any significant error in dose estimations.
