The Schrodinger wave functional ψ = exp(-S(Aai)(x)}) for the d = 3 + 1 QCD vacuum is a partition function constructed in d = 4; the exponent 2S [in |ψ| 2 = exp(-2S)] plays the role of a d = 3 Euclidean action. We start from a simple conjecture for S based on dynamical generation of a gluon mass M in d = 4, then use earlier techniques of the author to extend (in principle) the conjectured form to full non-Abelian gauge invariance. We argue that the exact leading term, of 0(M), in an expansion of…

We consider the Casimir effect in a gauge-invariant Hamiltonian formulation of nonabelian gauge theories in (2+1) dimensions, for an arbitrary gauge group. We show that the result is in good…
Yang-Mills Ground State in 2+1 Dimensions and Temporal Gauge

A gauge-invariant wavefunctional is proposed as an approximation to the ground state of Yang-Mills theory in 2+1 dimensions, quantized in temporal gauge. The proposed vacuum state is the true ground…

Nonperturbative treatment of the functional Schrödinger equation in QCD.
- PhysicsPhysical review. D, Particles and fields
- 1988
This paper shows how to set up and solve a set of Ward identities which ensure gauge invariance of the wave functional, which can then be parametrized simply and used with various nonperturbative algorithms (e.g., variational).

One-loop gap equations for the magnetic mass in d=3 gauge theory
- Physics
- 1998
Recently several workers have attempted determinations of the so-called magnetic mass of $d=3$ non-Abelian gauge theories through a one-loop gap equation, using a free massive propagator as input.…
String tension and Chern-Simons fluctuations in the vortex vacuum of d=3 gauge theory.
- PhysicsPhysical review. D, Particles and fields

A quantitative (if model-dependent) estimate of the relation between the string tension and a gauge-invariant measure of the Chern-Simons susceptibility, due to vortex linkages, in the absence of a Chern- Simons term in the action is given.
