The characteristics of confined-concrete columns under strain gradient were examined. Twelve columns were tested under two different levels of end eccentricity. The test parameters included the arrangement, spacing, and volumetric ratio of confinement reinforcement. Columns with well-distributed longitudinal reinforcement, laterally supported by closely spaced transverse reinforcement, showed extremely ductile behavior, developing inelastic displacements exceeding 4% of the drift ratio without… Expand
Modelling eccentrically loaded high-strength concrete columns
Based on a confined concrete model for concentric static loading, an analytical method is proposed to predict the behaviour of laterally confined concrete columns subjected to eccentric staticExpand
Strength and ductility of confined concrete columns under axial load and biaxial bending
The behaviour of prismatic reinforced concrete columns under increasing eccentric compression load was experimentally investigated and analytically modelled. Columns with distributed longitudinalExpand
DISPLACEMENT-BASED DESIGN OF REINFORCED CONCRETE COLUMNS FOR CONFINEMENT

Analytical modelling of confined HSC columns under flexure and axial load
Existing models for high strength concrete (HSC) confined by rectilinear ties have ignored the effect of axial load eccentricity (strain gradient). An empirical stress–strain model for confined HSCExpand
Behavior of short circular tubed-reinforced-concrete columns subjected to eccentric compression
Abstract The tubed-reinforced-concrete (TRC) column is a kind of confined reinforced-concrete (RC) columns using the outer encasing thin-walled steel tube which discontinues at the beam-column jointsExpand
Behavior of circular tubed steel-reinforced-concrete slender columns under eccentric compression
Abstract This paper presents experimental and analytical studies on the structural behavior of circular tubed steel-reinforced-concrete columns subjected to eccentric compression. The specimens wereExpand
Eccentricity based analysis of confined reinforced concrete circular columns
The development of column interaction diagrams for unconfined concrete is a standard analysis procedure. However, the need to develop an alysis tools for the actual ultimate capacity of columns isExpand
Behavior and Strength of Circular Tubed Steel-Reinforced-Concrete Short Columns under Eccentric Loading
This paper presents the results of experimental studies on circular tubed steel-reinforced-concrete (TSRC) short columns subjected to axial and eccentric loading. A total of 12 columns with the keyExpand
Partial Confinement Utilization for Rectangular Concrete Columns Subjected to Biaxial Bending and Axial Compression
The prediction of the actual ultimate capacity of confined concrete columns requires partial confinement utilization under eccentric loading. This is attributed to the reduction in compression zoneExpand
Confinement Model for High-Strength Concrete
A mathematical model is developed to express the stress-strain relationship of high-strength concrete confined by transverse reinforcement. The model is applicable to both normal-strength andExpand
