It is natural that the rapid evolution of increasing powerful computers should inspire attempts to solve previously intractable problems by numerical calculation. One might imagine that within a fairly short time, advances in processing speed and memory capacity ought to reduce the simulation of physical systems governed by partial differential equations to a matter of routine.
