Purines -derivatives of imidazo[4,5-d]pyrimidine (I) comprise one of the most highly studied subjects of the chemistry of biologically active compounds. The interest with respect to purines is due to the role of adenine and guanine in the organism, and also because of the high biological activity of natural and synthetic derivatives of purines, among which caffeine, theophylline, theobromine, compamin, trental, azathioprin, etc. are most widely applied in medicine.
