Condensation may occur in an open-flow thermoacoustic cooler with stack temperatures below the saturation temperature of the flowing gas. In the experimental device described here the flowing gas, which is also the acoustic medium, is humid air, so the device acts as a flow-through dehumidifier. The humid air stream flows through an acoustic resonator. Sound energy generated by electrodynamic drivers produces a high-amplitude standing wave inside of the resonator, which causes cooling on a…

Experimental Study of Condensation in a Thermoacoustic Cooler With Various 3D-Printed Regenerators Using Water Vapor as the Working Fluid
Thermoacoustics (TA) deals with the conversion of heat into sound and vice versa. The device that transfers energy from a low-temperature reservoir to a high-temperature one by utilizing acoustic
Identification and attenuation of losses in thermoacoustics: Issues arising in the miniaturization of thermoacoustic devices
Thermoacoustic energy conversion is based on the Stirling cycle and uses sound waves to displace and compress the working gas. When this process occurs inside a porous medium that is subject to a
Acoustic oscillations driven by boundary mass exchange
Thermoacoustic instability – self-sustained pressure oscillations triggered by temperature gradients – has become an increasingly studied topic in the context of energy conversion. Generally, the
Mass variation of a thin liquid film driven by an acoustic wave
In this work, we investigate the dynamics of a thin liquid film subjected to an acoustic field in its bounding vapor space. For large acoustic wavelengths, the field imposes a spatially uniform,
Review of flow-through design in thermoacoustic refrigeration
The design and functionality of thermoacoustic refrigerators has been the focus of considerable attention from the research community since the 1980’s. This environmentally friendly technology has

Multiphase flows frequently occur in many important engineering and scientific applications, but modeling of such flows is a rather challenging task due to complex interfacial dynamics between
Control of self-excitation mode in thermoacoustic system using heat phase adjuster
The capability of a heat phase adjuster (HPA) to control the resonance mode in a loop-tube-type thermoacoustic system by locally heating the outside is experimentally investigated. It is shown that

Thermal diffusion and mixture separation in the acoustic boundary layer
Oscillating thermal diffusion in a sound wave in a mixture of two gases is remarkably effective for separating the components of the mixture. We consider this separation process in boundary-layer
