This paper describes the preliminary development stages of an agent-based model (ABM) used to understand and anticipate changes to Wiki pages. A discrete space approach was used to structure the model. Letters from words in the wiki were represented as agents which could be changed, deleted, or added based on rates derived from wiki page histories. A C# pre-processor, called Wiki-Hist-Heist, was developed to facilitate analysis of existing wiki page histories and provide model… Expand

TLDR
A brief introduction to ABMS is provided, the main concepts and foundations are illustrated, some recent applications across a variety of disciplines are discussed, and methods and toolkits for developing agent models are identified. Expand
A Survey of Agent-Based Modeling Practices (January 1998 to July 2008)
TLDR
Six improvements needed to advance ABM as an analysis tool are discussed, including the development of ABM specific tools that are independent of software and the development and application of statistical and non-statistical validation techniques specifically for ABM. Expand
The Web 2.0 Mandate for a Transition from Webmaster to Wiki Master
This chapter focuses on the how the advent of Web 2.0 has influenced the role of webmaster and given rise to the wiki master. In section 1, the author provides an overview of the role of webmasterExpand
Improving creation, maintenance and contribution in wikis with domain specific languages
TLDR
This Thesis presents an approach, uses cases and a prototype to the aforementioned challenges, and advocates the use of a Wiki Scaffolding, i.e., a wiki installation provided at the onset to mimic the organizational setting. Expand
AGENT-BASED SIMULATION TUTORIAL-SIMULATION OF EMERGENT BEHAVIOR AND DIFFERENCES BETWEEN AGENT-BASED SIMULATION AND DISCRETE-EVENT SIMULATION
This tutorial demonstrates the use of agent-based simulation (ABS) in modeling emergent behaviors. We first introduce key concepts of ABS by using two simple examples: the Game of Life and the BoidsExpand
Agent-Based Models in Empirical Social Research
TLDR
The motivations for using agent-based models in both basic science and policy-oriented social research are discussed, and methods and strategies for incorporating data on behavior and populations into agent- based models are provided. Expand
Harvesting Wiki Consensus: Using Wikipedia Entries as Vocabulary for Knowledge Management
TLDR
The authors show that the URIs of Wikipedia entries are reliable identifiers for conceptual entities and demonstrate how Wikipedia entries can be used for annotating Web resources and knowledge assets. Expand
Analysing trade-offs in container loading: combining load plan construction heuristics with agent-based simulation
TLDR
This approach uses the output of the CPO algorithms to create agents that simulate the spread of mould through proximity-based interactions between the agents, and shows the trade-offs involved in container utilisation and the propagation of mould without evidence of any correlation between them. Expand
Open-Source Technologies for Maximizing the Creation , Deployment , and Use of Digital Resources and Information
Rising costs, combined with an increasing lack of flexibility of commercial course management technology tools such as uLearn and Blackboard, have prompted educators to consider other options. NewExpand
