This study determined concentration levels of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) in sediment samples collected from Jukskei River in South Africa. Final extracts, after concentration and dilution to 200 μL were analyzed by injecting 1 μL in the GC–ECD and GC–MS. Results obtained showed good recoveries (73%–114%, with RSD < 17%). The concentrations of ∑PBDEs in sediment for the seven sampling sites ranged from 0.92 to 6.76 ng g−1 dry weight and total PBDEs with a total BDE sum of 23.85 ng g…

Results from statistical analysis indicated that the potential sources of PBDEs of sediments in Hanoi may come from penta-BDE and octa- BDE mixtures, which are markedly lower than threshold value for occurrence of any ecotoxicological risk.

The distribution observed in this study indicated higher levels of sediment contamination by APEs relative to BFRs, which underline the need to further investigate the burden and risks associated with chemical contamination in developing countries.
Levels of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) in water and sediment from open city drains in Makurdi Metropolitan Area, North Central Nigeria
