This report describes current work on the modelling of assemblies and the encapsulation of assembly knowledge in a rule-based system which allow efcient generation of feasible assembly sequences for mechanical products. The set of feasible sequences is generated from the topological and mechanical descriptions of the connections between component parts of the product.
