Time delays have become unavoidable in power systems since communication links are extensively used for sending and receiving control signals. This paper investigates the effect of time delays on the stability of a single-area load Frequency Control (LFC) system. A direct and exact method to compute delay margins is presented. The delay margin is the maximum amount of the time delay that the system can tolerate before it becomes unstable for a given operating point. The proposed method starts…

TLDR
This article studies the impact of incommensurate communication time delays on stability regions defined in proportional-integral (PI) controller parameter space for a two-area load frequency control (LFC) system and illustrates that incommonsurate delays have remarkable effects on the stability region.
Design of Robust Controller for LFC of Interconnected Power System Considering Communication Delays
TLDR
A robust method to design a controller for multi-area LFC schemes considering communication delays and it has been concluded that the proposed controller guarantees the tolerance for all time delays smaller than the preset upper bound and provides a bigger delay margin than the existing controllers.
