We consider random walks in i.i.d. elliptic random environments which are not uniformly elliptic. We introduce a computable condition in dimension d = 2 and a general condition valid for dimensions d ≥ 2 expressed in terms of the exit time from a box, which ensure that local trapping would not inhibit a ballistic behavior of the random walk. An important technical innovation related to our computable condition, is the introduction of a geometrical point of view to classify the way in which the… Expand

We sharpen the ellipticity criteria for random walks in i.i.d. random environments introduced by Campos and Ramirez which ensure ballistic behavior. Furthermore, we construct new examples of randomExpand
An effective criterion for ballistic behavior of random walks in random environment
Abstract We investigate multi-dimensional random walks in random environment. Specifically, we provide an effective criterion which can be checked by inspection of the environment in a finite box,Expand

The conditions (T)γ, γ ∊ (0,1), which were introduced by Sznitman in 2002, have had a significant impact on research in random walk in a random environment. Among others, these conditions entail aExpand

On a Class Of Transient Random Walks in Random Environment
We introduce in this article a class of transient random walks in a random environment on Z d . When d ≥ 2, these walks are ballistic and we derive a law of large numbers, a central limit theorem andExpand
