In Chase and Simon's (1973b) pattern recognition theory, quantitative differences in knowledge (size and number of chunks) were considered to determine skill differences between chess experts and novices. In addition, Holding's (1985) SEEK (Search, EvaluatE, and Know) model also included differences in search and evaluation.
