This article assesses the causes of the timing of transposition of 2179 EU directives, using an original dataset of 3183 laws adopted by the Italian authorities. Amendments to Commission directives are transposed sooner. Additionally, EU laws with longer time for adaptation present a lower risk of delay beyond the deadline.
