In children, pelvic fractures are not common, and therefore, sacral fractures are a rare occurrence. Sacral fractures are often associated with neurologic deficit. Using radiographs alone may not be adequate to diagnose sacral fractures, and computed tomography scanning and/or magnetic resonance imaging may be needed. Treatment of the sacral fracture is often controversial and can range from nonoperative management to surgical intervention. This article presents a case report of completely…

Historically, pelvic fractures have been treated conservatively, but this trend is changing with a better understanding of the pelvis' inability to remodel significant deformity, as well as new techniques for operative fixation.

There was a low level of evidence that fixation of the fracture results in better neurological improvement compared with isolated decompression, and a comparison of the neurological outcome of nonoperatively treated patients and surgically treated patients showed similar neurological recovery rates.
Neurotrophin‐3 Induces BMP‐2 and VEGF Activities and Promotes the Bony Repair of Injured Growth Plate Cartilage and Bone in Rats

It is suggested that NT‐3 may be an osteogenic and angiogenic factor upstream of BMP‐2 and VEGF in bony repair, and further studies are required to investigate whether NT‐ 3 may be a potential target for preventing growth plate faulty bony Repair or for promoting bone fracture healing.

It is shown that sacrum fractures, not an easy diagnosis, may be more frequent than currently assumed, and that in quite a number of children and adolescents an anterior pelvic fracture may in fact be an unrecognized Malgaigne type pelvic fracture with a posterior fracture plane cutting through the sacrum.
