In order to support analysis of channel catfish populations and genetic improvement programs, the channel catfish, Ictalurus punctatus, mitochondrial genome was completely sequenced and revealed gene structure and gene order common to vertebrates. Nucleotide sequence comparisons of cytochrome b (Cytb) and cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 (COI) demonstrated genetic separation of the genera Ictalurus, Pylodictis and Ameiurus consistent with the taxonomic classification within Ictaluridae. Mitochondrial genome of the shorthead catfish (Pelteobagrus eupogon): structure, phylogeny, and intraspecific variation.
TLDR
It is concluded that this species appears to be closely related to the Amblycipitidae, the most basal extant lineage within the Siluriformes, while the Bagridae appeared as the sister group of Cranoglanididae and Pangasiidae. Expand
Mitochondrial genome of the shorthead catfish (Pelteobagrus eupogon): structure, phylogeny, and intraspecific variation.

The complete mitochondrial genome of the helmet catfish Cranoglanis bouderius (Siluriformes: Cranoglanididae) and the phylogeny of otophysan fishes.
TLDR
The phylogenetic placement of the family Cranoglanididae among siluriform families was discussed and it was shown that the grouping ((Characiformes, Gymnotiformes), Siluriformes) outgroup is the most likely but there is no significant difference between this one and the other alternative hypotheses. Expand
The complete mitochondrial genome of the Chinese longsnout catfish Leiocassis longirostris (Siluriformes: Bagridae) and a time-calibrated phylogeny of ostariophysan fishes
TLDR
The Chinese longsnout catfish together with the Bagrid catfish had a closer affinity with Amblycipitidae than with other four analyzed catfish families, and the time-calibrated tree generated in this study would provide a powerful evolutionary tool for broad-scale comparative studies of the catfishes and the ostariophysan fishes. Expand
The complete mitochondrial DNA sequence of the short mackerel (Rastrelliger brachysoma), and its phylogenetic position within Scombroidei, Perciformes
TLDR
The phylogeny obtained by Bayesian analyses based on two nucleotide datasets corresponding to the cytb and nd2 mitochondrial genes strongly support the inclusion of R. brachysoma within the monophyletic tribe of Scombrini in the family Scombridae and reveals high-statistical support for the existence of two distinct groups indicating that Scombroidei and Xiphioidei are two separate suborders. • Conservation Genetics
  • 2013
TLDR
Each lineage of channel catfish in North America should be regarded as an evolutionarily significant unit/management unit and therefore separate management and conservation strategies should be undertaken in order to conserve the genetic resources. Expand
The first complete mitochondrial genome from Bostrychus genus (Bostrychus sinensis) and partitioned Bayesian analysis of Eleotridae fish phylogeny
TLDR
The phylogenetic analysis supported the monophyly of Hypseleotris and Gobiomorphs and the Bostrychus were most closely related to Ophiocara, and the Philypnodon is also the sister to Microphlypnus, based on the current datasets. Expand
Sequencing and characterization of mitochondrial DNA genome for Brama japonica (Perciformes: Bramidae) with phylogenetic consideration
TLDR
The complete mitochondrial genome sequence of Brama japonica is isolated and characterized by PCR and primer-walking sequencing techniques and provides a set of useful data for studies on population genetic diversity and molecular evolution in Bramidae fish species. Expand
Complete mitochondrial genome of the bullhead torrent catfish, Liobagrus obesus (Siluriformes, Amblycipididae): Genome description and phylogenetic considerations inferred from the Cyt b and 16S rRNA genes.
TLDR
Data from the mtDNA isolated from the bullhead torrent catfish support the hypothesis that speciation in the order Siluriformes, in most cases, follows a geographic mode through the accumulation of a numerous small genetic changes over a long time period. Expand
The complete mitogenome of natural triploid Carassius auratus in Qihe River
TLDR
The complete mitochondrial genome sequence of Carassius auratus in Qihe River has been obtained with PCR and would contribute to better understand population genetics, conservation, and the evolution of natural triploid in China. Expand
