Soluble extracts from human lymphoid cell lines that perform repair synthesis on covalently closed circular DNA containing pyrimidine dimers or psoralen adducts are described. Short patches of nucleotides are introduced by excision repair of damaged DNA in an ATP-dependent reaction.
