Summary.Recombinant proteins of truncated viral protein-2 (VP2) (aa 79-359) and VP3 of infectious pancreatic necrosis virus (IPNV) and marine birnavirus (MABV) were expressed in E. coli and their immunogenicities in fish were investigated. The recombinant proteins from IPNV were used to immunize rainbow trout and those from MABV to immunize flounder. The sera from the immunized fishes were assayed for antibody by ELISA and a neutralization test. Both the recombinant VP2 and VP3 produced…

Figures and Tables from this paper

Immunogenicity properties of authentic and heterologously synthesized structural protein VP2 of infectious pancreatic necrosis virus.
TLDR
The presence of sugar moieties on the authentic protein is suggested to be of pivotal importance in eliciting an immune response capable of preventing infection in cell cultures in vitro.
Isolation and expression of recombinant viral protein (VP2) from Iranian isolates of Infectious Pancreatic Necrosis Virus (IPNV) in Escherichia coli.
TLDR
The successful cloning and expression of the structural viral protein gene into E. coli can be used for developing a useful and safe vaccine to control IPNV infection in Iranian fish industry.
Detection and Genotyping of an Infectious Pancreatic Necrosis Virus from Asymptomatic Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) Facilities in Mexico
TLDR
The EdoMex07 IPNV isolate is currently used as the standard positive control for detection of IPNV in rainbow trout farms in Mexico, and has a VP2 phenotype which has been suggested to be involved in the establishment of the carrier state.
Bivalent DNA vaccine induces significant immune responses against infectious hematopoietic necrosis virus and infectious pancreatic necrosis virus in rainbow trout
TLDR
Significant protection against co-infection with IHNV and IPNV was observed, with cumulative mortality rates of 6.67% and 3.33%, respectively, compared with 50.0% and 43.3% in the mock-vaccinated groups.

Strain variability and localization of important epitopes on the major structural protein (VP2) of infectious pancreatic necrosis virus.
TLDR
The results suggest that the variable domain of VP2 and the 20 adjacent amino acids of the conserved C-terminal part are the most important in inducing an immune response for the protection of animals.
Evidence of a major neutralizable conformational epitope region on VP2 of infectious pancreatic necrosis virus.
TLDR
Results indicate that these major structural proteins do not overlap in the virion, and anti-VP2 MAbs prepared against the European serotype N1 recognized and competed for epitopes present on the North American strain LWVRT 60.1 and Jasper.
Identification of VP3 as an important neutralising epitope from DRT strain, a Korean isolate of infectious pancreatic necrosis virus (IPNV)
TLDR
It appears that VP3 /VP4 are major immunogens of IPNV-DRT and that these viral polypeptides contain neutralising epitopes.
Mapping of neutralization epitopes on infectious pancreatic necrosis viruses.
TLDR
The results demonstrate that the central third of VP2 contains several partly overlapping neutralization epitopes, both variable and conserved among serogroup A strains of IPNV.
Genogrouping of birnaviruses isolated from marine fish: a comparison of VP2/NS junction regions on genome segment A
TLDR
Six marine strains form a new genogroup which is distinguished from three serotypes ofPNV, and amino acid variations in the possible amino terminus of NS when compared to IPNV are revealed.
Comparison of the RNA polymerase genes of marine birnavirus strains and other birnaviruses
Summary. The cDNA nucleotide sequence of the genome segment B encoding the VP1 protein, the putative RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp), was determined for 5 marine birnavirus (MABV) strains from
Evidence for the detection of the infectious pancreatic necrosis virus polyprotein and the 17-kDa polypeptide in infected cells and of the NS protease in purified virus.
TLDR
The identity of the virion NSt/NSta was also demonstrated by peptide mapping, and Western blots of purified virus revealed two forms of truncated NS: the NSt found in infected cells and a smaller polypeptide NSta.
Antigenic relationships of selected strains of infectious pancreatic necrosis virus and European eel virus
. An antigenic comparison of ten strains of infectious pancreatic necrosis virus (IPNV) and a single strain of European eel virus (EEV) revealed the presence of three distinct groups separable by
Biophysical studies of infectious pancreatic necrosis virus
TLDR
The molecular weight of infectious pancreatic necrosis virus (IPNV) has been determined by analytical ultracentrifugation and dynamic light scattering and reovirus particles were found to be much larger when hydrated than when dehydrated, having a large water content content and low average density.
Immunization with viral antigens: infectious pancreatic necrosis.

TLDR
In field trials it is shown that vaccination of pre-smolt with rVP2 included in a commercial oil/glucan adjuvanted multivalent bacterial vaccine gives protection against IPN in natural outbreaks, compared to fish vaccinated with the same vaccine without the IPNV component.
